No matter what label Coles stick on the outside of their produce, this remains a "Queensland Blue". What a pedestrian replacement: Pumpkin, grey, cut.
Beside it, in its own little cradle, lay a "Butternut Pumpkin" all appropriately labelled even though, to me, it is stringy. On t'other side, rested the "Kent" which is a bit watery for my palate.
Pumpkin is delicious roasted or mashed together with potatoes. It is an olde-fashioned vegetable; a vegetable of the working class because it was easy to grow in the vegie-patch down the back. It is the quintessential vegetable of the depression.
